Kumari Amman temple is an iconic temple almost 3000 year old dedicated to Virgin Goddess Kanyakumari. The temple is surrounded by a stone wall and stands on the edge of the ocean with its eastern gate opening to the sea. The idol of the diety in the kanyakumari temple is made of blue stone with a sparkling nose jewel made of rubies and is in a standing position facing the east. There is also a shrine dedicated to Tyaga Sundari in Kanyakumari temple.
